Attending a tournament and in reality, playing softball, was a new experience for a number of our players. Of the 14 travelling players, only 6 had attended a tournament before. The teams preparation and commitment showed through an overall tournament finish of 5th Place. Congratulations and good work to the girls and management team.

The North Island U15 Boys Tournament was hosted in the Waikato in 2015. The park looked picture perfect with four enclosed diamonds, and the weather didn’t let us down. The team trained alongside the U17 Boys pre-Christmas and this certainly gave them a great preparation leading into the tournament. All players contributed to a positive team environment and showed commitment and respect for the game.
They played some great softball during the week and took some of the more experienced softball teams from the bigger Associations down to the wire. They earned the respect of their opposition players, coaches, and the officials involved with their games.
This was the most successful Under 15 Boys tournament that a Waikato team has been involved in for the past four seasons. About half of the team will be eligible for U15’s again in 2016 while the rest will vie for a position in the U17 team.

The Team principles were Respect (for the game and for those in it), Contribution, Commitment and Communication. These principles were not just about softball, but also about developing young men. This group achieved all of these, and had fun doing it.
