The boys and management trained well pre-Christmas and were able to get in some practice games with Counties U17 Boys. The tournament began well with a close win against Southland, however it took the team a long time to settle into their game. Although there were a number of close games in pool play, they couldn’t finish off the games to secure more wins and move into higher play-off position. Despite this, it was a positive softball environment with a number of younger players stepping up to play some good softball.

The majority of the team have another year at the U17 level, which will be a great test for them next season.

National Recognition:

Raiden Shepherd had a good tournament with the bat and was rewarded for his efforts being selected in the U17 Boys ISA Team.

The group were great ambassadors for Waikato Softball, and worked very well as a team throughout the campaign. Bring on Christchurch, 2016!

Team Awards
Top Pitcher – Cody Downs
Top Batter – Raiden Shepherd
MVP – Jordan Taite

The Team principles were Respect (for the game and for those in it), Contribution, Commitment and Communication. These principles were not just about softball, but also about developing young men. This group achieved all of these, and had fun doing so.
